David Parry-Jones was born on September 25, 1933, in Pontypridd and died on April 10, 2017.

He was a Welsh sports commentator, TV current affairs presenter and writer.

Parry-Jones presented BBC Wales Today for many years and was a former rugby analyst for BBC Radio 5.

Parry-Jones authored many books on the sport of rugby; including several on the history of rugby in Wales.

When he completed school in Cardiff, David went up to Merton College, Oxford in 1952, where he read Classics and captained the Greyhounds rugby union and Authentics and college cricket teams.

Upon completing his national service, in 1959 David took up journalism and went on to become one of the BBC’s best-known rugby commentators, most notably for his description of Llanelli’s famous win over the All Blacks in 1972.

He died at a hospice in Penarth.

His death was a result of Alzheimer’s disease.

David Parry-Jones passed away at 83 years old.
