Daniel Josef Leab was born on August 29, 1936, in Berlin, Germany, and died on November 16, 2016.

He was mostly generally known as Daniel J. Leab and more familiarly as Dan Leab.

He was an American historian of 20th Century History, particularly the history of American labor unions.

Leab was also long-time editor or publisher of three journals and magazines.

During 1957, Leab obtained a BA from Columbia University.

From 1957 to 1958, Daniel attended Harvard Law School.

After going back to Columbia, he obtained an MA in 1961 and PhD in 1969.

Leab wrote his doctoral dissertation on the formative years of the American Newspaper Guild (1933-1936).

Daniel Leab passed away at 80 years old.
