Dame Leonie Kramer, Australian academic, author and university administrator, Died at 91

Dame Leonie Judith Kramer was born on October 1, 1924, and died on April 20, 2016.

She was an Australian academic, educator and professor.

Leonie was noted to be the first female professor of English in Australia, first woman to chair the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and the first female chancellor of the University of Sydney. She was made the Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire and the Companion of the Order of Australia.

Her husband was Harry Kramer, a South African pathologist, the got married in England in 1952.

The couple moved to Australia in 1953 as Harry denied returning to South Africa under apartheid, the couple had two daughters.

Dame Leonie Kramer passed away at 91 yrs old.
