Dale Leon Bumpers was born on August 12, 1925, in Charleston, Franklin County, Arkansas and died on January 1, 2016.
He was an American politician.
Dale served as the 38th Governor of Arkansas from 1971 to 1975.
He also served as the United States Senate from 1975 until his retirement in 1999.
Mr. Bumpers was a member of the Democratic Party.
He was recently counselor at the Washington, D.C. office of law firm Arent Fox LLP, where his clients included Riceland Foods and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
His parents were Lattie (Jones) and William Rufus Bumpers.
Dale Bumpers attended public schools and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
Mr. Bumpers served in the United States Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946 during World War II.
Dale graduated from the Northwestern University Law School in Evanston, Illinois, in 1951.
Dale took the Arkansas bar in 1952.
Mr. Bumpers began practicing law in his hometown in that same year and served as Charleston city attorney from 1952 to 1970.
Dale served as special justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court in 1968.
In his honor the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville founded the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural in the year 1995, Food and Life Sciences in his honor.
The White River National Wildlife Refuge in Arkansas was renamed “Dale Bumpers White River National Wildlife Refuge, in 2014, ”
Dale Bumpers passed away at 90 yrs old due to Alzheimer’s disease.
