Clovis Acosta Fernandes, football supporter, died at 60

  Dead Famous

Fernandes, who has passed away at the age of 60, was diagnosed with cancer nine years ago, according to Brazilian media outlet Globo.

His death was announced by Hospital Santa Casa in Porto Alegre.

Fernandes, usually seen clutching a replica of the World Cup trophy, had adorned TV screens around the world for a number of years as he followed his beloved Selecao around the world.

In a particularly poignant image, Fernandes’ teary-eyed face seemed to encapsulate the mood of a nation when it was broadcast during Brazil’s 7-1 defeat to Germany in the World Cup semi-final last year.

According to Globo, Fernandes died after a nine-year battle with cancer.

Our thoughts are with his friends and family.
