Clancy Sigal was born on September 6, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois and died on July 16, 2017.

He was an American writer.

He was a prolific author of dozens of essays and seven books.

He was best-known for his autobiographical novel Going Away (1961).

He was The Observer correspondent for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, and after 30 years in England decided to return to Los Angeles after falling in love there with writer Janice Tidwell.

The couple soon married, and became a screenwriting team.

The couple wrote the screenplay for the Oscar-winning 2002 Salma Hayek film Frida.

Sigal’s final book, a memoir of his London years, is scheduled to be published early in 2018.

His first marriage, to Margaret Walters in 1980, ended in divorce in 1989.

During 1995, he had a son, Joseph, with his second wife, Janice Tidwell.

He died in Los Angeles, California, of congestive heart failure.
