Chinese physicist, Hao Bolin, Died at 83

Hao Bolin was born in Beijing, in 1934 and died in March 2018.

He was a Chinese theoretical physicist.

Hao graduated from then Beijing Russian Institute in 1954, then went to Kharkiv.

Bolin studied mining at Kharkov Engineering-Economic Institute, then transferred to the Department of Mathematics and Physics, Kharkiv University.

Bolin graduated from there in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree.

Bolin entered the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences as a trainee researcher afterwards.

Hao went to Moscow State University and Soviet Academy of Sciences for the further studying on physics since 1959.

He had meant to become a postgraduate under Lev Landau, but Landau was injured in a road accident in 1962, he had to give up and back to China without a postgraduate diploma.

Bolin continued his job in CAS until the Cultural Revolution began.

During that era, he took part in the Task 1019 for the military.

Hao took interdisciplinary research programmes later, he also sequenced DNA since 1997.

Hao Bolin had three siblings, their father, Jingsheng was a botanist.

He made the acquaintance of Zhang Shuyu, another Chinese student from Jiangxi province, in Kharkiv, they got married in the late 1950s, and had two children.

Bolin was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980.

Bolin died on 7 March 2018 at 83 years old.
