Chinese physicist, Hao Bailin, Died at 83

Hao Bailin or Hao Bolin was born on June 26, 1934, and died on March 7, 2018.

He was a Chinese theoretical physicist, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Fudan University professor.

Hao entered the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences as a trainee researcher afterward.

Bailin went to Moscow State University and Soviet Academy of Sciences for the further studying on physics since 1959.

He had the plan to become a postgraduate under Lev Landau, but Landau was injured in a road accident in 1962, he returned to China without a postgraduate diploma.

Bailin continued his job in CAS until the Cultural Revolution began.

During that era, Hao took part in the Task 1019 for the military.

He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980.

He underwent interdisciplinary research programmes later, Hao also sequenced DNA since 1997.

He had three siblings.

Jingsheng, the father was a botanist, thus Bailin was supposedly named after a Chinese native tree, Cupressus funebris.

He met Zhang Shuyu, a Chinese student from Jiangxi province, in Kharkiv.

They married in the late 1950s and had two children.
