Chen Yingzhen, Taiwanese writer, Died at 79

Chen Yingzhen was born in 1937 and died on November 22, 2016.

He was a Taiwanese author.

As of the 1980s, Chen has been viewed by many as “Taiwan’s greatest author”, according to Jeffrey C. Kinkley.

Chen Yingzhen was also notable for serving a prison sentence for “subversive activity” between 1968 and 1973.

Yingzhen has been active since the late-1950s.

He was again imprisoned in 1979.

He has 15 volumes long of Collected Works and was published in 1988.

A few of his stories were also included in Lucien Miller’s Exiles at Home.

Chen Yingzhenthe was the son of a devout Christian minister.

Nonetheless, he never was a Christian himself while growing up.

He was arrested in 1968 by the Kuomintang for “leading pro-communist activities”, and was imprisoned until 1973.

Chen Yingzhen passed away at 79 years old.
