Chinese xiangsheng actor Chang Guitian was born in 1942 and died on November 30, 2018.

Chang Guitian was a Chinese xiangsheng comedian of Manchu ethnicity.

Guitian was a first-level national actor.

Guitian earned the rank of major general on December 22, 2012.

Guitian’s disciples included Li Zhiyou (李志有), Zhu Haitang (朱海堂), Zhang Yong (张勇), and Zhang Lingqi (张令奇).
Biography

He was born into a family of xiangsheng performers.

Chang Lian’an Guitian’s grandfather (Chinese: 常连安; 1899–1966) was a xiangsheng master in the first half of the 20th century.

Guitian’s father Chang Baokun was a xiangsheng performer who died in the Korean War.

Guitian’s uncle Chang Baohua (1930–2018) was one of the sixth generation of well-known xiangsheng performers.

Chang Guitian started to learn xiangsheng under Zhao Peiru in 1954.

Four years later, Chang Guitian joined the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Political Department of People’s Liberation Army Navy.

He was given a promotion to the rank of major general (shaojiang) on December 22, 2012.

Chang Guitian passed away at 76 years old due to a illness in Beijing.
