María Carmen Hernández Barrera was born on November 24, 1930, in Olvega, and died on July 19, 2016.

She was a Spanish catechist and the co-founder of the Neocatechumenal Way.

She gained her degree in chemistry in Madrid.

Then, Carmen gained her degree in theology at the Missionaries of Christ Jesus.

During the sixties, when the Second Vatican Council to command, Carmen devoted herself to the poor and marginalized.

Hernández, had met Kiko Argüello, and together with the charisma of Charles de Foucauld they formed the Neocatechumenal Way in 1964.

She died in Madrid.

Carmen Hernández passed away at 85 years old.
