British diplomat, Sir Nigel Broomfield, Died at 81

Sir Nigel Hugh Robert Allen Broomfield was born on March 19, 1937, and died on October 29, 2018.

He was a British diplomat.

He was taught at Haileybury College and Trinity College, Cambridge.

Broomfield joined the British Army and was authorized in the seventeenth/21st Lancers in 1959, resigning with the rank of Major in 1968.

Broomfield joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1969 and served in the British consulates in Bonn and Moscow, and with the British Military Government in Berlin, and in addition senior posts at the FCO.

Broomfield was Deputy High Commissioner, New Delhi, 1985– 88; Ambassador to the German Democratic Republic 1988– 90; Deputy Under Secretary of State (Defense) at the FCO 1990– 92; and Ambassador to Germany 1993– 97.

He was named CMG in 1986 and knighted KCMG in 1993.

In the wake of resigning from the Diplomatic Service, Sir Nigel was chief of the Ditchley Foundation 1999– 2004.

Broomfield participated in the Atlantic Storm practice in 2005.

Broomfield was a non-official chief of TI Group 1998– 2000 and of Smiths Group 2000– 2007.

Broomfield was additional director of Leonard Cheshire Disability 2004-2009.

He was privileged President of the German-British Chamber of Commerce.

Broomfield was the establishing non-official Chairman of Cambridge Quantum Computing.

Sir Nigel Broomfield passed away at 81 years old due to cancer.
