Brian Hurn was born on March 4, 1939, in Angaston, South Australia, and died on October 18, 2015.

Brian was an Australian cricketer (South Australia).

He was part of South Australia’s Sheffield Shield winning side in 1963 to 1964 and forged a sporting legacy that lives on through grandson and current West Coast Eagles captain Shannon Hurn.

Brian son William also played 135 games for Central District in the South Australian National Football League.

Both inherited his nickname.

A fast-medium bowler and a more than handy lower order batsman, Bunger senior’s greatest on-field feat may have been a five-wicket haul against a powerful English batting order, on an afternoon of glory, when he was just 19.

Before the tour began, the England team was regarded as one of the strongest to visit Australia, and its ranks included fast bowlers Fred Trueman and Frank ‘Typhoon’ Tyson.

Earlier in the season, England had crushed South Australia by nine wickets.

But South Australia made several changes the second time around, bringing in young bowlers Peter Trethewey, Alan Hitchcox and Hurn, who was fresh out of Prince Alfred College.

Brian Hurn passed away at age 76 in October 2015.
