Brendan McGahon was born on November 22, 1936, and died on February 8, 2017.
He was a former Irish Fine Gael politician.
McGahon was a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Louth constituency.
He was often described as ‘colourful’ and with a reputation as a social conservative, Brendan McGahon was first elected to Dáil Éireann at the November 1982 general election and retained his seat until retiring at the 2002 general election.
He lived in Ravensdale, County Louth.
McGahon’s son, Conor, was a councilor from 1991–99 and his brother, Johnny, lost his seat in the 2004 local elections ending the McGahon family’s 108 consecutive year representation on Dundalk Town Council and Louth County Council.
McGahon’s nephew, John McGahon had been elected to Louth County Council at the 2014 local elections.
Brendan McGahon passed away at 80 years old.
