Bramwell Cook, New Zealand gastroenterologist, Died at 81

Herbert Bramwell Cook was born on February 11, 1936, in Gujarat, India, and died on March 3, 2017.

He was a New Zealand gastroenterologist.

He was noted for his research into the diagnosis and treatment of coeliac disease.

He spent his working life from 1960 to 2002 at hospitals in Christchurch, apart from five years in London, England, and Michigan, USA, between 1964 and 1969.

Cook was a clinical lecturer at the Christchurch School of Medicine from 1973 to 2003.

He Specialised in gastroenterology, Cook’s main area of expertise was in the diagnosis and treatment of coeliac disease, and in a study between 1970 and 1999 he and his co-workers showed that the prevalence of the disease in New Zealand was up to seven times greater than had previously been diagnosed.

Cook died in Christchurch.

Bramwell Cook passed away at 81 years old.
