Bobby Wellins, Scottish jazz saxophonist, Died at 80

Robert Coull “Bobby” Wellins was born on January 24, 1936, and died on October 27, 2016.

He was a Scottish tenor saxophonist.

He was best known for his collaboration with Stan Tracey on the British jazz album Jazz Suite Inspired by Dylan Thomas’s “Under Milk Wood” (1965).

During 2012, he was the subject of a documentary film, Dreams are Free, directed by Brighton-based director Gary Barber.

By using interview and concert footage, the film traces the rise, fall and redemption of Wellins, showing how he overcame addiction and depression, and rediscovered the desire to play after ten years away from jazz.

Bobby Wellins passed away at 80 years old.
