Basil Barrington Watson January 9, 1931, and died on January 26, 2016.

He was a Jamaican painter.

Painter Watson made his primary mark in Jamaica as a football player for Kingston College.

Nevertheless, Watson ultimately supported his artistic yearnings by enrolling at the Royal College of Art in London.

Barrington travelled widely and then returned to Jamaica in the early 1960s.

He became the first Director of Studies at the Jamaica School of Art and co-founded the Contemporary Jamaican Artists’ Association (1964-74).

Later, he served as a visiting professor at the Spelman College, Atlanta.

In 1967, The Painter Barrington Watson won a prize at the first Spanish Biennale at Barcelona.

In 2000, Watson was also awarded the Gold Musgrave Medal by the Institute of Jamaica.

Mr.Watson has displayed his work throughout Jamaica and internationally.

His children are sculptors Basil Watson and Raymond Watson.

Watson was the headline of Lennie Little-White’s 2015 documentary film They Call Me Barrington.

Barrington Watson passed away at 85yrs old.
