He was an Indian Odia journalist and litterateur.
Barendra was associated with newspapers like Swaraj, Aj Kal, Sambad and Prajatantra.
He was the leader of the Lekhaka Samukhya, a literary movement in the remote areas of Odisha.
Barendra worked as the chief secretary during 1982-88.
Dhal was the chairman of National Union of Journalist during 1990-93.
He began the Bhubaneswar Bookfare, an annual book fair in Bhubaneswar.
