Barbara Oliver Hagerman, Canadian music teacher and public servant, Died at 73

Barbara Anne Oliver Hagerman, was born on February 9, 1943, in Hartland, New Brunswick and died on October 6, 2016.

She was a Canadian music teacher and performer and was the 27th Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island.

Hagerman was the second woman in the province’s history to have held this position.

She received a degree from Mount Allison University specializing in voice and organ, and began her career in music in Charlottetown and Summerside, Charlottetown being her current place of residence.

Barbara was the conductor of the Summerside Community Choir for 17 years, which performed throughout the Maritimes and even at Carnegie Hall under her leadership.

Barbara Oliver Hagerman was an active volunteer as well as a great participant in Canada’s music domain.

Barbara Oliver Hagerman volunteered with the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals and the P.E.I. Music Festival Association, and she also helped seniors and children with special needs.

Barbara Oliver Hagerman was married to Nelson Hagerman, and together they had two children and two grandchildren.

She died due to cancer.

Barbara Oliver Hagerman passed away at 73 years old.
