Barbara Goldsmith was born on May 18, 1931, and died on June 26, 2016.

She was an American author, journalist, and philanthropist.

Her birth name was Barbara Joan Lubun.

Goldsmith has received critical and popular acclaim for her best selling books, essays, articles and her philanthropic work.

She completed her first book, in 1975, The Straw Man, a novel about the New York art world.

Her second book was Little Gloria…Happy at Last, published in 1980.

In 1987, Johnson v. Johnson was Goldsmith’s third book.

Barbara Goldsmith has been awarded four honoris causa doctorates, and numerous awards; been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, two Presidential Commissions, and the New York State Council on the Arts; and honored by The New York Public Library Literary Lions as well as the Literacy Volunteers, the American Academy in Rome, The Authors Guild, and the Guild Hall Academy of Arts for Lifetime Achievement.

During 2009, Barbara Goldsmith received the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit medal from the Republic of Poland.

During November 2008, she was elected a “Living Landmark” by the New York Landmarks Conservancy.

Barbara Goldsmith has three children and six grandchildren.
