Avril Lavigne

Avril Ramona Lavigne was born on September 27 1984 and is a Canadian and Frenchsinger-songwriter. She was born in Belleville, Ontario, and spent most of her youth in the town of Napanee. By the age of 15, she had appeared on stage with Shania Twain; by 16, she had signed a two-album recording contract with Arista Records worth more than $2 million. Her father, Jean-Claude Joseph Lavigne, is a French national.

Her mother, Judith-Rosanne “Judy” Loshaw, has English, Scottish, and German ancestry. Avril and her siblings are both Canadian and French citizens from birth, as France applies the “right of blood”.

At age 17 when lavigne went in the music career, she was known as a young, pop-punk tomboy who refused to resort to skin-baring come-ons, preferring to entice the record-buying public with her powerhouse voice, high-spirited melodies, and straight-talking lyrics.

Staying steadfastly true to herself and putting music before image paid off both critically and commercially for the small-town girl from Napanee, Ontario.

Year 2002 was when Lavigne went to international pop fame with the six times platinum Let Go, followed by 2004’s three times-platinum Under My Skin, 2007’s platinum The Best Damn Thing, and 2011’s Goodbye Lullaby, which sold more than two million copies worldwide.

Over the course of her decade-plus career, Avril has scored a string of international hit singles, toured the globe on multiple sold-out tours, earned eight Grammy Award nominations, won eight Canadian Juno Awards, and sold more than 35 million albums and 20 million tracks worldwide.

Year 2004 was when Avril transformed her personal life after meeting  Deryck Whibley and the two fell for one another instantly, with Lavigne tattooing a heart and the initial ‘D’ on her wrist. In June 2005, Whibley proposed in Venice and the couple tied the knot in 2006, Lavigne transformed girly image was put into a picture-perfect Vera Wang wedding dress.

Lavigne went into the entrepreneurial field by launching her own clothing line in July 2008 called Abbey Dawn which is her childhood nickname and also appearing in the animated film ‘Over the Hedge’ with a legion of A-list stars including Bruce Willis and Steve Carell. Further acting roles are said to be in the process and no doubt a fourth album will follow too.

Sadly for Lavigne, her marriage to Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 did not stand the test of time and the pair announced that they were separating on September 17, 2009. Their divorce was finalised on November 16, 2010. Lavigne did not let her failed marriage stopped her from dating fellow Canadian rocker Chad Kroeger frontman of the band Nickelback, in July 2012.

The relationship thrived after they began working together in March 2012 to write and record music for Lavigne’s fifth album. Lavigne and Kroeger became engaged in August 2012, after one month of dating. The couple married in the South of France on July 1, 2013, which is Canada Day.

They had their honeymoon in Portofino, Italy.  In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, the 26-year-old said that ‘everyone’s always surprised that she and her former husband was still close.
