Austrian Olympic alpine skier, Erika Mahringer, Died at 93

Erika “Riki” Mahringer was born on November 16, 1924 and died on October 30, 2018.

She was an Austrian former alpine skier.

She competed in the 1948 and 1952 Winter Olympics.

Erika Mahringer won the bronze decoration in the slalom occasion and in the Alpine consolidated rivalry. In 1948

Amid the declining challenge, she completed nineteenth.

After four years Erika Mahringer completed fourth in the 1952 Olympic downhill occasion.

Amid that year she completed seventeenth in the mammoth slalom rivalry and 22nd in the slalom challenge.

She earned silver decorations in the FIS Alpine Skiing World Championships 1950 at Aspen (slalom and downhill), and in the mammoth slalom she completed fourth.

Erika Mahringer was a six-time Austrian Champion (downhill 1948, 1951, 1952; slalom 1951; monster slalom 1951; Alpine Combined 1951). During 1951, she was named Austrian Sports Personality of the Year.

Mahringer was conceived in Linz. Erika Mahringer marry individual skier Ernst Spiess in 1954.

Together they established the Mayrhofen Ski School.

In 1955, they opened “Riki’s Skikindergarten”, the world’s first kids’ ski school.

Riki and Ernst are the guardians of Uli Spiess and Nicola Spiess who wound up Alpine ski racers like their folks.

Erika Mahringer passed away at 93 years old.
