Auke Reitze Bloembergen was born on August 28, 1927, and died on November 1, 2016.

He was a Dutch jurist and legal scholar.

Auke Bloembergen was a professor of civil law at Leiden University from 1965 to 1979.

He was a justice at the Supreme Court of the Netherlands from 1979 to 1993.

He was appointed a Supreme Court of the Netherlands justice, in 1979.

Auke Bloembergen stayed on until 1993, and continued four more years in extraordinary service.

Bloembergen had recently served as a member of the Council of State in extraordinary service from 1984 to 1989.

He was regarded as one of the first Dutch academic jurists proposing reforms in the system of compensation related to court cases.

He was elected a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1991.

He died in Wassenaar.

Auke Bloembergen passed away at 89 years old.
