Brazilian composer and musician Arthur Maia was born on April 9, 1962, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and died on December 15, 2018.

He was thought of as one of the best bass players in the world by professional critics.

He played with many famous artists, such as Djavan, Gilberto Gil, Marisa Monte, Lulu Santos and Ney Matogrosso.

Arthur Maia’s compositions usually present a fusion of jazz, funk, swing music and reggae.

During 1990, he recorded his first solo album, which won the Prêmio Sharp award one year later.

During 1996, Arthur Maia recorded his second album, which was very well received by critics, and in 2002 recorded Planeta música, with the participation of many famous musicians, such as Dennis Chambers and Mike Stern.

In 2005, he had put together a tribute to his uncle, who had died that year.

The show was held at the Mistura Fina Pub, Rio de Janeiro, with the participation of the Brazilian singer Leny Andrade.

Arthur Maia passed away at from cardiac arrest, at 56 years old.
