Arthur Blythe was born on July 5, 1940, in Los Angeles, and died on March 27, 2017.

He was an American jazz alto saxophonist and composer.

Blythe instrumental voice had a vibrato and was within the post-bop subgenre of jazz.

He began to record as a leader in 1977 for the India Navigation label and then for Columbia records from 1978 to 1987.

He played on many pivotal albums of the 1980s, among them Jack DeJohnette’s Special Edition on ECM.

Arthur Blythe passed away at 76 years old.
