Anne Pippin Burnett was born on October 10, 1925, and died on April 28, 2017.

She was an American Classics scholar.

Burnett was a expert in Greek literature, especially tragedy and the lyric poetry of the archaic and early classical periods.

She gained her BA from Swarthmore College in 1946 and followed this with a MA in 1947 at Columbia University.

During 1953 she gained her PhD from Berkeley.

Burnett then taught at Vassar College (1957-58) and the University of Chicago.

Burnett received various academic awards during her career including a Martin Lecture at Oberlin College in 1978, Walsh Lecturere at Chicago (1989-90), Sather Lecturer at Berkley (1993-94), and a Guggenheim fellowship in 1981.

Anne Pippin Burnett passed away at 91 years old.
