Ann Rule, True crime writer, Dies at 83.

Ann Rule died from a heart attack after going to the emergency room and experiencing cardiac arrest. She was moved to hospice care the day before she died. She was 83 years old.

 

Ann Rule was a writer best known for her true crime work. She is best known as the author of The Stranger Beside Me, a book about serial killer Ted Bundy.

 

Her book Small Sacrifices, which was about Oregon child murderer Diane Downs is also well known.

Much of Rule’s work centered around murder cases from the Pacific Northwest, as she resided in Washington State.

 

She was originally from Michigan, but got her associate degree at Highline Community College in Des Moines, Washington before attending University of Washington, where she studied creative writing and psychology.
