Andrew Smith was born on September 9, 1990, and died on January 12, 2016.

He was an American basketball player.

Smith played in two NCAA Final Fours during his career at Butler, and professionally for Neptūnas.

Andrew grew up in the Indianapolis, Indiana, area.

Andrew Smith attended Covenant Christian High School where he became a star basketball player.

During his senior year, he led the state of Indiana in rebounding, was named All-City player of the year, and was selected as a National Christian Schools Athletic Association All-American.

Following high school, Smith accepted a scholarship offer to play basketball at Butler.

While he was at Butler, he was a reserve during his freshman year.

He had only played three minutes during the previous month, he came into Butler’s Elite Eight game against Kansas State and played a significant role in helping the school to its first-ever Final Four appearance.

He was 6 feet 11 inches (2.11 m) tall, weighing 243 pounds (110 kg).

He was a very good 3-point shooter and rarely dunks the ball, both rare traits for a center.

Andrew Smith became a starter shortly after the start of his sophomore year and his emergence as a starter helped Butler return to the Final Four.

In his junior years, he made more than 52% of his shot attempts.

He also expanded his game to include 3-point shooting.

As a senior, Smith became a vocal leader for Butler and led the team in rebounding.

Butler had returned to the NCAA tournament where Smith recorded a career high and Butler tournament record sixteen rebounds against Bucknell in a second-round match.

Andrew Smith was selected as an Academic All-American and Senior CLASS Award recipient.

Andrew Smith finished his college career with more than 1000 rebounds and 100 wins, one of just three Butler players to achieve the feat.

Andrew Smith married his long-time girlfriend shortly after graduating from Butler with a degree in finance

Smith’s basketball career prematurely ended in January 2014, after he noticing a suspicious bump on his neck, he began having increasing difficulty breathing.

The U.S. Doctors in Indianapolis initially determined Smith was suffering from non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and soon made a more specific diagnosis of T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma.
