  Artists

André Courrèges was born on March 9, 1923, in Pau and died on January 7, 2016, in Neuilly-sur-Seine.

He was a French fashion designer.

André Courrèges was best known for his futuristic designs.

After his studies for a civil engineer, at the age of 25, he went to Paris to work at the fashion house of Jeanne Lafaurie.

Shortly after, he went to Balenciaga.

He has been influenced by modern architecture, technology, new fabrics, and modernism and futurism in Art and Design.

Other designers made similar claims, including Coco Chanel, who he had worked with and knew many modern artists, and Mary Quant, whose career parallels those of Courrèges in some ways (both Courrèges and Mary Quant lay claim to the invention of the miniskirt).

André Courrèges had pushed his ideas to the extreme, producing some of the 20th century’s most distinctive designs.

During the early 1983, Andre has worked with the Japanese motor company Honda to design special editions of their TACT motor scooter.

Itokin was the Courrègesready-to-wear license holder in Japan with the retail value of €50 million, in 2005.

Since 2012, 50% of the firm’s total income was from license royalties.

André Courrèges passed away at 92 yrs old.
