American theologian, Grant R. Osborne, Died at 76

Grant R. Osborne was born on July 7, 1942, and died on November 4, 2018.

He was an American theologian and New Testament scholar.

He was Professor of New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

Osborne had degrees from Fort Wayne Bible College, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and the University of Aberdeen.

He represented considerable authority in scriptural hermeneutics.

Osborne was best known for his idea of the “hermeneutical winding”, meaning an “upward and valuable procedure of moving from prior pre-comprehension to more full understanding, and the returning back to check and to survey the requirement for remedy or change in this primer comprehension.”

He was an individual from the Bible Translation Committee for the Holy Bible: New Living Translation.

Osborne filled in as General Translator for the Gospels and Acts.

Grant R. Osborne passed away at 76 years old.
