American jazz saxophonist, Chuck Wilson, Died at 70

Charles Dee “Hurl” Wilson was born on July 31, 1948, in Wichita Falls, Texas and died on October 17, 2018.

He was an American jazz alto saxophonist.

He started playing saxophone at age 11 and drove his very own trio while still in secondary school.

Wilson went to North Texas State University and has since spent quite a bit of his profession in different huge band outfits.

Wilson was with Jerry Gray at the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas around 1972, and following the pioneer’s demise in 1976 he played with Buddy Rich from 1977 to 1980.

Wilson did much studio work in New York City during the 1980s, on clarinet and woodwind notwithstanding saxophone.

Wilson played with Tito Puente in 1980-81, Gerry Mulligan from 1981 to 1989, Bob Wilber (1983), Loren Schoenberg (1984), Benny Goodman’s last gathering (1985– 86), Buck Clayton (1986-90), and Walt Levinsky.

Wilson was with Howard Alden and Dan Barrett’s quintet from 1985 to 1991.

Wilson drove his own gathering, Chuck Wilson and Friends, from 1996, which included Murray Wall, Alden, and Joel Helleny as sidemen.

Wilson passed away at 70 years old in New York
