August Edmund “Augie” Garrido Jr. was born on February 6, 1939, and died on March 15, 2018.
He was a head coach in NCAA Division I college baseball most known for his stints with the Cal State Fullerton Titans and Texas Longhorns.
He compiled a collegiate record of 1,975–919–9, retiring in 2016 as the winningest coach in college baseball history.
Garrido took his programs to 15 College World Series, winning five of them: three with Cal State Fullerton and two with Texas.
He was a friend of former President George W. Bush from the time Bush was a part owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team.
On March 12, 2018, he suffered a stroke.
Three days later, Garrido died at the age of 79 in California.
