Ambrose “Amby” Gerald Fogarty was born on September 11, 1933, in Dublin, Ireland and died on January 3, 2016.

He was an Irish professional football player.

Ambrose played at club level for Bohemians, Glentoran, Sunderland, Hartlepool United, Cork Celtic and Cork Hibernian.

When he played at Roker Park, Ambrose scored on his home debut against Chelsea F.C. and played alongside Charlie Hurley and Brian Clough.

In 1964, Amby started as the first Hartlepool player to make an international appearance when he won the last of his 11 caps for the Republic of Ireland national football team against Spain.

Amby made full international debut for Ireland on May 11, 1960, at a game he played in a 1-0 friendly win over West Germany in Düsseldorf.

In 1971, Amby Fogarty signed as player/manager of Drumcondra F.C.

When his football career had ended, became the manager of Cork Hibernians, Cork Celtic, Drumcondra, Limerick, and Athlone Town who he managed in a famous 0-0 draw against A.C. Milan in the 1975–76 UEFA Cup.

Fogarty was the first manager of the Galway Rovers in 1977.

Amby Fogarty passed away at 82 yrs old.
