Alison Piepmeier was born on December 11, 1972, in Cookeville, Tennessee and died on August 12, 2016.

She was an American scholar and feminist,

She was known for her book Girl Zines: Making Media, Doing Feminism.

Alison served as the director of the Women’s and Gender Studies and associate professor of English at the College of Charleston prior to her death.

Additionally to her academic writing, Alison contributed to a column for the Charleston City Paper and had written editorials for The New York Times Motherlode blog.

In her work at the intersection of feminism and disability studies, she has experimented on how women make reproductive decisions when prenatal testing reveals their fetus has Down syndrome, and has analyzed memoirs by parents of children with disabilities.

During 2014, Alison was named as one of the 50 Most Progressive people in Charleston by online magazine Charlie.

Alison Piepmeier passed away at 43 years old.
