Alfred Seppelt was born on July 12, 1929, in Magdeburg, and died on October 21, 2015 from lung cancer.
He was a German chess functionary and President of the Berlin Chess Federation from 1984 to 2004.
He was the owner of several drug stores in Berlin.
Alfred learned chess after World War II from his father.
In around 1948 Seppelt joined the chess group Wilmersdorf.
Seppelt attended the West Berlin championships with a total of 25 times, which he won in 1960 and in 1978.
In 1990 Seppelt was awarded the Order of Merit Award.
He was once again elected only against strong opposition on the second ballot.
Seppelt resigned from the office in 2004 and was since then honorary president of the Berlin Chess Federation.
