Alexandru Vulpe, Romanian historian and archaeologist, Died at 84

Alexander Vulpe was born on June 16, 1931, in Bucharest, and died on February 9, 2016.

He was a Romanian historian and archaeologist.

He was a member of the Romanian Academy, in 1996, as the director of the Institute of Archaeology ” Vasile Parvan “.

Alexander received his education from the University of Bucharest history, studying ancient history and classical philology.

During 1965, he was a researcher at the Institute of Archaeology “Vasile Parvan” Bucharest, and in 1968, he obtained his Ph.D. in history with “Hallstatt necropolis of Ferns” (scientific Ion Nestor).

In the year 1976, he became as a member of the German Archaeological Institute and a member of the Permanent Council of the International Union of Sciences Pre- and Proto (UISPP).

In 1990, Alexander became chief of prehistoric archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology and Associate Professor of the History Faculty of the Bucharest University.

From 1991, Alexander was a Member of the Executive Committee UISPP and in 1999, he served as the director of the Institute of Archaeology “Vasile Parvan”.

Alexander served as a lecture at the universities of Heidelberg, Berlin, Bonn, Frankfurt, Marburg, Münster, Giessen, Saarbrücken.

During 2000, he received the order “Star of Romania” with the rank of commander, and in 2009, he served as a member of the Romanian Academy and chairman Department of Historical Sciences and Archaeology.

Alexander Fox passed away at 84 yrs old.
