Alex Govan, Scottish footballer, Died at 86

Alexander “Alex” Govan was born on June 16, 1929, and died on June 10, 2016.

He was a Scottish professional footballer.

Alex played at outside left.

For most a majority of his career was spent with Plymouth Argyle (in two spells).

He had his most successful period with Birmingham City in the 1950s, and he also had a short spell with Portsmouth.

Alex Govan credited with being responsible for Birmingham’s fans adopting Harry Lauder’s song “Keep right on to the end of the road” as their anthem.

Govan scored 30 goals in 117 appearances for Plymouth, and was part of the team that won the Third Division South championship in the 1951–52 season.

Alex Govan passed away at 86 yrs old.
