Aleksander Einseln, Estonian military officer, Died at 85

Aleksander Einseln was born on October 25, 1931, in Estonia and died on March 16, 2017.

He was an Estonian general, the Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces from 1993 to 1995 and a former United States Army colonel.

His mother fled from the Soviet occupation during 1944.

Einseln served in the US Army taking part of the Korean War and as a Green Beret in the Vietnam War, from 1951-1985

During 1993, on the request of President Lennart Meri, he returned to Estonia to serve as the first Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces following the restoration of Estonia’s independence.

Aleksander Einseln passed away at 85 years old.
