Aledo Meloni, Argentine journalist, Died at 103

Aledo Luis Meloni was born on August 1, 1912, and died in on January 11, 2016.

He was an Argentine journalist.

Aledo Meloni was a poet and teacher based in the Argentine province of Chaco since 1937, often listed as one of the greatest literary exponents Chaco.

Meloni work is based on the verses to describe the austere environment of the western part of the Chaco, and now part of the compulsory education level readings of the province.

Aledo was the son of a native Italian couple in the province of Macerata who arrived with his two eldest sons to Argentina in 1908.

He moved to Chaco after the National Board of Education appointed him the head of a rural school in the Doce de Octubre Department (then called Campo del Cielo), 17 kilometers from General Pinedo ; a year later he was put in charge of a rural school that he inaugurated, 5 km away in Colonia San Antonio, the first colony of Germans from the Volga founded in the province.

He moved to Resistance where he lives since then to take charge of the technical secretariat of the National Schools Inspectorate, in 1956; He retired in 1963 but continued to work in the Popular Library Herrera of that city.

Aledo Meloni also collaborated in the late newspaper the Territory and the Northern newspaper.

Meloni received several awards for his poetry, including Knight of the Order of Merit of Italy in 1982 and the Santa Clara de Asis Award in 1990.

He received from the National University of the Northeast title Doctor Honoris Causa, in recognition of his career in poetry, on May 24, 2006.

Aledo Meloni passed away at 103 yrs old.
