Albert Soloyan, Armenian cycling coach, Died at 67

Albert Soloyan was born in 1949 in Kapan city of Syunik region and died in October.

Albert Soloyan, the 67 years-old cycling coach, used to be Iran’s national team coach 16 years ago and led his riders to win a gold and bronze medal in the Asian Games.

He left the secondary school in 1967.

He entered the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and graduated from there in 1971.

After he served in the Soviet Army, he began working at the volunteer sports organization.

He was appointed the national team’s head coach in 1975, working till 1997.

The same year Albert Soloyan was invited to the Islamic Republic of Iran as the national team’s head coach.

From 2000 to 2002 he headed the Malaysian team; in 2003-2005 Albert was invited to Hong Kong to lead its national team.

From 2005-2006 he was the head coach of the Chinese national team.

In 2007 Soloyan returned to work in Armenia as the head coach and in May 2008 was assigned a director of specialized children and youth cycling school of Olympic reserve.

In 2014-2015 was the head coach of Georgia’s national cycling team.

Albert was married and had two children.

Albert was in Iran as a result of a contract he recently signed on 17 October 2015 in Tehran, by which he became Iranian national cycling team’s coach (Track endurance and Road) starting on 25th Oct 2015.

Soloyan was going to head the Iranian teams until the 2016 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Albert passed away at age 67 in October 2015.
