Alan Sidney Patrick Rickman was born on February 21, 1946, and died January 14, 2016.

He was an English actor and director.

Alan was known for playing a variety of roles on stage and screen, often as a complex antagonist.

He was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, performing in modern and classical theatre productions.

He first major popular television part came in 1982, but his big break was as the Vicomte de Valmont in the stage production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses in 1985, for which he was nominated for a Tony Award.

Alan Rickman gained a bigger audience for his film performances as Hans Gruber in Die Hard and Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film series.

His other film roles also included the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Jamie in Truly, Madly, Deeply, Colonel Brandon in Ang Lee’s Sense and Sensibility, Harry in Love Actually, P. L. O’Hara in An Awfully Big Adventure, Alexander Dane in Galaxy Quest, and Judge Turpin in the film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s musical of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

In 1995, Allan Rickman received a Golden Globe Award, an Emmy Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his portrayal of the title character in Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny.

Rickman also won a BAFTA Award for his role in Robin Hood.

Alan’s last film, Alice Through the Looking Glass, will be released posthumously in May 2016.

Alan Rickman passed away at 69 years old due to cancer.
