Al Markim real name Alfred Markim was born in 1927, in Wilkes Barre, PA and died on November 24, 2015.

He was an actor and producer, known to TV’s first generation of fanboys as Astro.

Al first served in the Army and witnessing the Nuremberg trials of Nazi officials.

After which he turned to acting, appearing in the soap opera Love of Life and in an off-Broadway production of La Ronde.

Al played Astro in the pioneering, wildly popular Space Cadet, from 1950 to 1955 and appeared on these networks (CBS, ABC, NBC, DuMont).

This had earned him a place in the Boomer pantheon.

Al later starred in One Man’s Family and First Love.

Al, then worked at MGM and served as executive in charge of production on the Sidney Lumet drama, ‘The Pawnbroker’ in 1964, starring Rod Steiger.

He also worked as an associate producer on The Fool Killer in 1965, top lined by Anthony Perkins.

In 1968, Al also co-founded the video duplication firm Teletronics and entered into a partnership with Sony.

The company later became Video Corp of America and merge with Technicolor.

Al was inducted into the Video Hall of Fame in 1996.

He left behind his wife of 53 years, Sondra; children, Nancy, Dan, Gary, Nina and Carla; and 11 grandchildren.

Al Markim passed away at 88 years old.
