Ahmed Kathrada, South African anti-apartheid activist and politician, Died at 87

Ahmed Mohamed Kathrada was born on August 21, 1929 and died on March 28, 2017.

He was sometimes known by the nickname “Kathy”, .

He was a South African politician.

He was a former political prisoner and anti-apartheid activist.

His involvement in the anti-apartheid activities of the African National Congress (ANC) led him to his long-term imprisonment following the Rivonia Trial, in which he was held at Robben Island and Pollsmoor Prison.

After he was release in 1990, he was elected to serve as a member of parliament, representing the ANC.

Kathrada has authored a book, No Bread for Mandela- Memoirs of Ahmed Kathrada, Prisoner No. 468/64.

Ahmed Kathrada passed away at 87 years old.
