Abdullah Ahmad, Malaysian newspaper editor, journalist and politician, Died at 83

Tan Sri Abdullah Ahmad was born on July 4, 1937, and died on June 12, 2016.

He was a Malaysian journalist and a politician.

He took up the role has editor-in-chief of the New Straits Times.

Abdullah Ahmad had written an article criticising Saudi Arabian policies that aided the United States invasion of Iraq, among other things, On November 12, 2003

Because of the article, the Saudi government reduced Malaysian quota for haj.

Around November 21, of the same year, Ahmad “was sacked without warning by the daily’s management at the request of the ruling UMNO party following a complaint by the Saudi ambassador in Malaysia.”

However, UMNO, which is part of the ruling government and holding equity in the papers later stated that he had jeopardised Malaysia’s close relationship with Saudi Arabia.

Abdullah Ahmad passed away at 83 yrs old.
