Abdul Karim Ali Al-Iryani or Al-Eryani was born on October 12, 1934, and died on November 8, 2015.
He was the Prime Minister of Yemen from 29 April 1998 to 31 March 2001.
Abdul, along with President Ali Abdullah Saleh, is a member of the General People’s Congress (GPC).
Before the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen merged with the northern Yemen Arab Republic, Al-Eryani held posts as Minister of Development (1974 to 1976), Minister of Education (1976 to 1978), Prime Minister (1980 to 1983), and Minister of Foreign Affairs (1984 to 1990) in the northern YAR.
Following unification in 1990, Abdul continued to serve as Minister of Foreign Affairs for the united Republic of Yemen until 1993, when he became Minister of Development briefly before returning to foreign affairs in 1994.
Abdul was appointed Prime Minister after Faraj Said Bin Ghanem abruptly resigned on 29 April 1998. He served in this capacity until 31 March 2001, when he was succeeded by Abdul Qadir Bajamal.
He received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Georgia in 1962, a Master of Science in Agriculture from the same institution in 1964, and a Ph.D. in Biochemical Genetics from Yale University in 1968.
Abdul was a Member of the Global Leadership Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation set up in 2004 by FW de Klerk to support good governance and reduce conflict around the world.
Abdul Karim Al-Eryani passed away at age 81 on November 8, 2015 in Frankfurt-Germany.
