Sean Paul

Sean Paul Ryan Henriques who is known by the stage name Sean Paul was born on the 9th of January 1973 in Kingston, Jamaica, he is a Jamaican producer, rapper and songwriter and singer. Born to athletic parents Garth and Frances although his mother was also a painter, Sean is of English and Chinese descent.

 

Many members of his family are swimmers. His grandfather was on the first Jamaican men’s national water polo team. His father also played water polo for the team in the 1960s, and competed in long-distance swimming, while Sean Paul’s mother was a backstroke swimmer.

 

Sean Paul played for the national water polo team from the age of 13 to 21, when he gave up the sport in order to launch his musical career. He attended the Wolmer’s High School for Boys, Belair School, Hillel Academy High School, and the College of Arts, Science, and Technology, now known as the University of Technology where he studied Hotel Management.

 

After graduating from university he took a job as a chef then went on to work in a bank. Despite his strong academic and athletic record, Sean Paul’s love of dancehall proved to be irresistible and he chose to pursue a career in music.

 

Sean Paul’s international profile rose significantly in 1999 when he teamed up with Mr Vegas and DMX to record “Here Comes the Boom” for the film Belly. In 1999 he also recorded “Hot Gal Today” with Mr Vegas.

 

This single was very well received in Jamaica and overseas and was included on the soundtrack to Shaft. This Jamaican dancehall superstar first sparked the world in 2002 with his breakout hit, “Gimme the Light,” and the fire has been burning brightly ever since.

Hot on the heels of his multi-platinum, Grammy-winning classic album, Dutty Rock, he dropped the 2005 RIAA platinum smash The Trinity. The Kingston-born rhyme slinger has already sold more than 10 million albums worldwide, and has become the most successful Jamaican artist of all time on the U.S.

 

charts spurred by a trio of #1 pop singles, and five top ten hits. A multi-ethnic person of Sephardi Jewish, Portuguese, Chinese and African ancestry Sean has been deeply interested in music since he was merely a little boy.

 

“I’m Still in Love With You”, and notably “Get Busy” which became the number one song on 4 Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, the selling of “Dutty Rock” expanded to nearly 6 million copies worldwide.

 

His accomplishments consequently enhanced his status to be one of the cherished dancehall reggae artists who has been able to put this genuine Jamaican music on a global scale. In 2013, it had been Sean Paul started working on his sixth studio album Full Frequency that was released on the 18th February 2014.

 

The first single off the album “Other Side of Love” was released to iTunes on 10 June 2013. Sean Paul has continued to hit the music scene with many hit songs, he is one of Jamaica’s favourite and the world at large.
